Driver all smiles after fatal drunken crash

A Florida woman flashed a carefree smile in her mug shot — despite the possibility of facing manslaughter charges for allegedly crashing her car while drunk and killing a 60-year-old woman.

The accident happened in Ocala just before noon May 10, when boozed-up driver Agenette Marie Welk rammed into the back of a 2017 Hyundai Elantra with her 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche on US Route 27, according to Villages News.

The impact sent the Hyundai — driven by 18-year-old Shiyanne Kroll, whose mother Sandra Clarkson was in the passenger seat — hurtling toward the tractor trailer in front of it.

Kroll’s car became partially wedged underneath trailer, which was carrying horses.

She suffered minor injuries, while Clarkson was critically injured and died four days later at Orlando Regional Medical Center, according to Click Orlando.

Clarkson had just celebrated her 60th birthday the day before.

Welk, 44, was arrested at the scene on charges of DUI, DUI with property damage and DUI with great bodily harm. She’s free after posting $10,000 bond.

Florida Highway Patrol officials are working with prosecutors to upgrade those charges to DUI manslaughter following Clarkson’s death.

Welk allegedly reeked of alcohol and had problems following instructions during a field sobriety test. Her blood alcohol content was .172 – more than twice the legal limit.

She told cops she crashed because she dropped her cell phone in the car.

Kroll and her sister Keonna Sciacca were appalled over the smiling mugshot.

“That disgusts me and that means she has no remorse for what she did at all and I hope that judge sees that picture and says the same thing,” Kroll said.

Clarkson suffered a stroke as a result of the crash, which also left her paralyzed and brain dead, her family said. She was taken off a ventilator Monday.

“Our lives changed forever,” said Sciacca. “It’s definitely wrecked our family forever, not just temporarily, this was a permanent thing that (Welk) did.”
